I wanted to get a real hike in. My recovery from foot surgery last year was delayed by COVID and by the hunt for mushrooms. But finally, it was time to get a real hike in and get back into hiking shape.

I figured Iron Pk was a good choice. It was further out of the big metro area so I figured it would easier to social distance. Generally I was right and it was a good choice. I got an early start because I wanted to avoid the heat (temps were expected to be in the mid 80s) and I wanted to get home in time to start the weekly family Zoom call. I was at the trailhead (3932') and hiking by about 8:30am.

The trail starts out moderately steep. Being more out of shape than I have been in a while, I made a few stops along the way to the saddle (6100'). There were lots of flowers about so lots of diversions. I reached the saddle (2.66mi, 6103') to find the typical snow right at the saddle. Nothing that was hard to navigate over.

I reached the summit around 11am and found a nice rock to sit on an enjoy the views. One solo hiker came up minutes behind me but we founds spaces well distanced. I sent a text to Steve to share the views and then noted that since it was just after 11am...that if I made good time down to the car and the drive back home...I could still make the Zoom call. I saw a total of about 6 other hikers the whole day. Not bad... It was a beautiful day to be out.
