A return trip to Carne Mtn. Larch weren't quite at peak. I suspect peak color is a few days away.

We arrived at the trailhead early (mainly to get a decent parking spot). Temps when we got out of the car were not quite as cold as expected. Perfect temps for fall hiking. There is no snow at the start of the trail, snow starts just below the basin. Nothing was ever deep enough to start creating a trench.

My feet have been bothering me all year so I waived Tom and Steve off to the summit while I waited just above the basin.

Instagrammers have found this hike. was pretty disgusting. I can handle the chatter of the people that you couldn't quite escape from all day. I'm glad people are out. What I can't handle is the self absorption of the Instagrammer selfie takers. Makes me want to hurl. Then there were the "hikers" that appeared to have all the right gear but were clueless on etiquette. There were more than several hikers walking side by side through the meadows not wanting to get the boots dirty so they'd trammel down the grasses on either side of the trail. I honestly don't get this. Isn't this what we buy boots for? Yes, there was mud on the trail but at best is was 1/2" deep. Stay on trail folks. Unless you want the trail though the basin looking like a giant spider's web of social trail...STAY ON THE TRAIL. And in case I haven't been clear...STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!

I'm glad I chose to now head up to the top. Steve and Tom said there were a dozen or so people crowding the summit. Beer drinking, ushanka wearing, selfie-stick carrying hikers were everywhere. Steve shot a movie of a glammed up selfie-stick wielding self-absorbed Instagrammers grooming herself and taking photo after photo after photo. Ugh. Disgusting.

Other that the clueless hikers though...great day. Any day out on the mountains with people close to me is a good day.
