Time for a rainy day hike. Boulder River is a good fallback for a day like today but I wanted something different. I suggested Suiattle River to Steve and he was agreeable. It would be a good day to check our lush green forest, mushrooms, a gorgeous river, and maybe...just maybe...give me some information about the approach in to Miner's Ridge. I really want to get in there and maybe this trip could assure me that the knees could handle the trip.

We didn't get a super early start. I think we were at the trailhead (elev 1579') and hiking around 9:30am. We figured we'd just hike until it felt like a good time to turn around.

The first part of the "trail" is old road which is in really good shape. We only hiked about 3.5mi until we reached a campsite along the river. This turned out to be a nice spot for lunch (though a late one). The trail doesn't gain much elevation either...we only gained a bit over 1500' before we turned around. From the descriptions of the trail this continues all the way until you reach the junction with the trail that heads up Miner's Ridge. It's really great trail. Wide and well maintained. There was one spot we reached were it looked like a small slide came down over the trail (earlier this year?). Thankfully a crew had been in here and cleared (cut) the trees down across the trail to clear the corridor. The trail a bit mucky here but the section is short. To my uneducated eyes it looks like there is a lot of clay in the area and maybe that is why is slid???

We hiked to the campsite I mentioned and stopped for lunch. The rain did decide to pick up a bit and this continued the whole hike back to the car. By the time we reached the car it was a pretty good sprinkle. Best part of the day...we didn't see another soul out on the trail...
