An easy trip today. Work has been busy and I just didn't have the brainpower to try to figure out a good place to go.

Stevens Pass ski area wasn't open yet so we got a bit lucky and were able to park in the lot on the north side of the highway (4056'). It was cold we we made sure to bundle up. The road up towards Skyline was pretty packed down so for most of the route up we only work microspikes.

I've never seen so much of this road groomed or packed down. We followed the road all the way to the radio tower (1.15mi, 5117') and it was here that we put on the snowshoes. We could have backtracked a bit down the road to pick up the trail that heads over to the lake. Instead, we decided to traverse to the lake through the trees.

The snow was pretty crunchy and firm and it wasn't too difficult getting over to the lake. We stayed a bit high, I wanted to head up the ridge above Skyline Lake. There was a pretty good set of tracks heading up and we reached the ridge views (1.53mi, 5251'). The views over to Tye Peak were completely socked in.

We headed back down to the lake which was completely snow covered and looked firm but there was no way I was walking out there. We did see a set of tracks crossing the lake but to me that seemed a bit risky this early in the season. We dropped our packs and settled in for a nice lunch (1.71mi, 5098'). After lunch we followed the trail down to the road and then the road back down to the car.
