Steve and I should have been up at GMLO this weekend. Well...it's that time of year. Fall is here. The weather was wet this past few days and snotel intel showed there could be about 8' of fresh snow up at the lookout. Not enough to prevent us from getting up there. It would likely be too wet and color to continue the painting. So...we looked for other plans...

Today I suggested we head up to Whidbey Island and Ebey's Landing to poke around. I'd never hiked the bluff trail and it always looked so appealing. I suggested it to Steve and he was agreeable to the idea. We headed to Mukilteo to catch the ferry to the island. Once there we drove north and headed directly for the landing. We managed to find the last parking spot in the small parking area. We decided to do the short loop trail counter clockwise (bluff first, then trail). It's an nice little trail. Great views of Admiralty Straight. The temps were perfect. I'm liking these cooler fall temps compared to the heat we endured this summer. We took our time on the beach section of the loop...lots of time to look for shells and interesting tumbled rocks.

After hiking the landing we headed up to Fort Ebey. It was interesting to see the old bunkers up there but the site was smaller than expected. We didn't stay too long.

Next up was Fort Casey...I'd been there before. I knew Steve would enjoy this place. We parked and he was instantly gawking at vast site. I headed over to Admiralty Head Lighthouse. I wanted to see the inside before the lighthouse closed for the day. After I got my lighthouse fix I managed to find Steve and we explored the old Fort Casey. There are lots and lots and lots of deep dark places to explore here...it's huge.
