Our plan was to hike up to Thorp Mtn LO but plans get changed by a minor gully across the road a few miles shy of he trailhead. Maybe, with some coaxing, the Jetta could have made it all the way but...why risk the oil pan? There were plenty of other options in the area. We turned around and headed to the Pete Lake trailhead. By the time we started hiking it was getting late, almost lunchtime. A nice surprise along this trail...bumping into a former co-worker and his daughter about a mile from the trailhead. They had spent the weekend up at the lake.

This trail is easy...it is nearly flat. We got to the lake, find a nice spot along the lakeshore, and had a late lunch. Lots of military jets flying about today. We spotted (and heard) several as they were making runs in the area.

Steve got a new nickname on this trip...Berry Boy. I introduced him to wild huckleberries and I'm not sure that was a good idea. He would not leave the trail until we (mostly him) had collected enough berries to make a huckleberry pie.
