I needed to get away...I reached out...a friend came to the rescue...Thank you...

Part of the reason for this trip was some TLC for me. So, not wanting to do a long drive and related border crossing, I decided to the Victoria Clipper ferry from Seattle to Victoria. This had the advantage of being less than 2 blocks from where I'd be staying in Victoria.

I drove down to Seattle early Friday morning, parked in a garage, then wheeled my suitcase to the ferry dock. We boarded, left about 8am, and then a nice relaxing ride right up to Victoria, arriving about 11am. We debarked and then claimed luggage and went through customs. Then a short walk to my hotel.

I'd be meeting a friend, she was taking me under her wing for the weekend, showing me the sights, etc. I got lunch down the street and then back to the hotel where Heather picked me up.

Friday we drove around Victoria to get a lay of the land. First we went down to Chinatown. Lots of great conversation, good company, some window shopping, and then dinner at a sushi place of Government Street.

Saturday I walked up Government Street and found the most excellent place for breakfast...Murphies. Awesome! A nice mocha, some apple strudel and bumping into the nicest woman and we chatted away at least an hour talking about her service for the Canadian Government which took her to Kashmir and Afghanistan 50+ years ago. Twas a perfect morning. Quiet, snow falling on the small city...just what I needed. Back at the hotel I met up with Heather again about 1pm and we headed off to Craigdaroch Castle. We're both fans of Downton Abbey and this sure felt like a little bit of Downton so close to home. Later that evening...a treat...we headed off to the Bengal Lunge at the Empress Hotel. We didn't have reservations but got seated near the fire and just before a jazz trio started playing. Cocktails in the Bengal Lounge next to the fire...pretty amazing.

Sunday morning I was off an my own again and went back to Murphies for breakfast. Then on the walk back to the hotel, decided to walk around the Legislative Buildings. Then again, met up with Heather for lunch. She needed to leave town earlier than expected so after lunch I headed off to the Royal BC Museum for a walk around. It's really quite a nice museum.

This weekend was perfect...I really needed to get away...pull myself out of familiar surroundings and into a quiet and quaint environment and get some TLC. Heather...I can't thank you enough...really.
