I've been to Park Butte LO before. But anyone who knows me...knows I love lookouts.

The weather forecast wasn't looking great. A last minute message from Karen...would I want to join her and the family and Dani & Jasper on a hike to Park Butte? Sure!

Dani and I met in town. I was hoping for a ride in the Westi...maybe next time :) We headed north and met the Crowes at the TH which by about 9am on a Sunday was getting pretty full. We packed up the stuff and off we went...Poison Ivy...Harley Quinn (as Ryan would name Dani and I for the day) along with a bunch of Crowes.

The trail skirts the edge of Schreibers Meadows which was teaming...well lets just say there were a lot of ripe blueberries. Lots of delays here and there as we all picked to our tummy's content.

The kids did great and we made it up to the junction with the RR Grade. Where to from here? The vote was to continue up to the lookout so off we went.

There was a mini swarm of ground nesting bees (not yellowjackets) on the switchbacks up to the LO. Some kind person had marked both sides of the trail with messages on yellow paper. Thanks! We got to the spot and quickly walked through the area. No stings...

On up to the LO we continued, the kids did GREAT! The weather forecast was much better than expected so we had the stunning views over Mazama Park and up the flanks of Mt Baker.

We stayed a bit...lots of people visiting the LO today...then time to hike down. More berry picking to be had and a yummy Mexican dinner in Sedro Woolley :)

More information on the lookout: The L-4 cab was built in 1933 and was manned into the 1960's. The current structure is available on a first come first service basis.
