Yet again another return trip to Umtanum. This time...still a bit on the early side for the flowers. Some were going pretty well. Best time to visit this area though is late May...right around Mother's Day.

I parked at the TH (Umtanum CG area) and then walked across the bridge over the Yakima River. The trail goes under the railroad tracks and follows the creek. After about 1/2 mile from the parking area I looked for a trail heading off to the left...up the canyon. Some years this trail seems faint and I've walked right past my turn. The trail hugs the left side of the drainage heading up. Gorgeous green trees down low. The cottonwood trees(?) down low were a beautiful shade of spring green. Higher up the yellow of balsamroot in full bloom. Lupine, larkspur, and even some phlox were blooming.

I hiked to just shy of Durr Road and then turned around.
