Followed the not so new trail...

Parked at the old quarry (large parking area) and headed up the old road, through a gate, over a log across a creek, atop a trail that seems more in the creek at times....

Eventually the "new" trail reached Bridal Veil Falls. Always a treat. I tried to stay clear of the fun getting wet on a cold winter day.

Sometimes it's fun to hike solo. Today I felt the need to return to the lake in winter by myself on New Year's Eve. Turns out to be a real nice hike. Didn't see a soul the whole day :)

After the falls the trail does a steady climb up a series of endless steps...steps on switchbacks. Ugh. Yuck. It does make the travel go faster though.

I had my best view yet of Index from up close. I've been to the lake several times in the winter in rain, sleet and snow but never sunshine. Today was a real treat. I finally got to see the lake!
