Swakane is a long way to drive for a day hike if you're coming from Seattle. I don't head out this way often but this is one of my favorite hikes in the area.

Nearly all of the trip follows old roads. There is a somewhat recent burn in the area so in addition to the desert wildflowers which are abundant this time of year, there also was some interest in the charred snags in some of the lower gullies.

Lots and lots of flowers out on this trip. It was a real treat when we rounded the north side of Pt 3923' to find shooting starts blooming along the hillside.

This trip is best done in early Spring when the flowers are in bloom and the hillside still have the blush of green...and most important...before the heat of summer really starts to make this part of the state unbearably hot.
