Richard and I headed out for what I hoped was an easy trip on the knees. It worked out well. There wasn't anything ever too steep on this route.

We drove to the end of the Jungle Creek FS Road. Then, taking a trail heading north we slowly climbed up the SW ridge of Johnson Mtn (Pt 5220). The trail veers off to the west rounding the head of the drainage before reaching the summit. We followed the trail around to the west side of the high point and followed a boot path up the west ridge to the top.

From the top of Johnson we headed back down to the main trail that continues north over Pt 4961. The trail then heads off again to the west and leads up to the top of Malcolm fro the NE ridge.

Easy hiking the entire way. Most of this trip is in the trees. Good if it was a hot day, which is wasn't. We started out the day with a light dusting of snow on the trail which remained through late afternoon when we were on our way out.
