What to say about Mt Pugh. It's steep, really steep. Really, really steep...

The first part of the trail to Lake Metam is gradual at first, then reasonable swithbacks. From the lake the trail continues to switchback uphill to Stujack Pass (I love that name).

From the Stujack Pass the trail heads steeply up a knife edge ridge to a small, narrow, exposed "saddle" at the head of Stujack Creek. Awesome views down to the north. There is an airy step before the final rock scramble to the summit. I called it quits here. Tired and that airy step had me intimidated. I always think to myself...don't do it if you can't live with the consequences. This was one of those decision points for me. Beth continued on to the summit while I waited at the gap for her.

When she returned...it was down, down, down, down....back to the TH.
