Well the weather wasn't looking the greatest but it was looking good enough to get out for my first long ride this year. The ride was long overdue.

Friends had done a trip out this way in March and it looked really interesting and I was definitely looking to copy it. It didn't work out quite as planned but it was still a great ride. We got a bit of a late start and parked at the Park & Ride in Burlington (just north of town off N Burlington Blvd) and then headed out. The roads were generally nice.

We first headed NW on Chuckanut Drive. This road is a higher volume road that's chip seal and a narrow shoulder. Thankfully we weren't on it long, just under 3 miles. The a turn north on Ershig Rd before heading NE again on Worline Rd to Bow Hill Rd which we followed into Edison Station and then Edison.

The plan was then to head out to Samish Island. We'd been fighting a strong headwind most of the way and of course not paying to much attention to our turns and before we knew it we were back on Samish Island Rd (off the island). Hmmm...

The original plan was to stay close to the water (staying on Bayview Edison Rd) but Steve suggested just heading back the way we came. It didn't matter much to me, I just wanted to get a good ride in. So...we pretty much just retraced our route back to the car with of course one more wrong turn.

It's a nice route. Decent roads, great views, lots of places to stop along the way...
