2003 trip up Mt Hawkins (photo by Steve Fox)
I'm one of those darned transplants to the PNW. I grew up in the Midwest (Twinsburg, Ohio to be exact). I stayed local until high school when I went to Beaumont School for Girls. Favorite memories from my childhood were canoeing down the Mohican River with family, visits to Virginia Kendall State Park and Nelson's Ledges, sledding in the Metroparks (now the Cuyahoga Valley National Park) and summer vacations to Lake Tatachikapika (northern Ontario).

I went to PCT&S, The Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now know as Philadelphia University) for  my undergraduate work. I spent my first year out of college living and working in Brooklyn, NY. What's the saying...NYC is a great place to live but you don't want to live there! I left NYC exactly one year later and moved to Chattanooga, TN. Living next to the Smokies provided plenty of opportunity to explore trails by hiking or by mountain bike, and the Ocoee River and Nantahala Rivers by whitewater rafting or inner tube float trips.

After finishing off my graduate work at the University of Tennessee, I moved to the PNW in late 1996 and I have no plans to leave. I first explored the trails and mountains of the area by volunteering with the Washington Trails Association. After meeting people through WTA I was introduced to scrambling and took The Mountaineers Scrambles Class with the Everett Branch in late 1998/early 1999. This introduced me to the great Wilderness and backcountry areas of the Glacier Peak Wilderness and the North Cascades. I hope to be able to continue to explore the beautiful mountains of Washington State for many years to come...

The pages on my site are primarily built around my experiences hiking, backpacking, scrambling and the occasional technical climb. I recently took the Basic Sea Kayak class through the Everett Mountaineers so I'll be including those trip reports on this site as well. There are some non-hiking related trips as well as trips outside of Washington State. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I have enjoyed the trips.
